Akron is my favorite weekend of the offseason
Very excited for this weekend! These are the things I’m looking to see:
Kyle Norstrem having a solid weekend to get some of his swagger back. He did well at Akron last year. He really lets himself go in freestyle and I think a good weekend will serve him well going into next season. He started off the season great and then illnesses and injuries happened and struggled and I think it hurt his confidence. For a big move guy like Kyle confidence is key.
Caden Darber show he’s ready to step up if needed. In 2020 we might need Darber to start so we can give Andonian a redshirt year. If he pulls off an impressive performance that might make us all feel more comfortable with Bryce shirting his first year.
Ryan Blees to show his regular season tear was more of who he is than his NCAA performance. After watching nationals play out I felt like Blees was better than all but 3 or 4 of the guys in that weight class. I want to see him have a strong performance and set himself up for an AA senior year.
DMF against the bigger guys at 79. His savvy might get him through, but there are some beastly guys at this weight. I think 74 is a better weight for him, but I like the decision to give him a test run at the higher weight.
How Borst looks at 97. I don’t think he should have much trouble strength wise and 97 is probably his best weight. I think he has the best chance at winning.
Bryce Andonian continuing his hot streak. He’s really on the rise right now. I’d love to see him win it and I think he’s got a good shot. I think he’s surpassed Manville and I’m excited to see if that’s true.
